Es para el diagnóstico médico que la Bacteriología, en primer lugar, se muestra útil al médico. Puede aprovecharse tres métodos bacteriológicos, que son los siguientes: 1º El examen directo, 2° El cultivo, 3° La inoculación de animales y, además de estos, agregarlos métodos suerológicos: 4° La aglutinación, 5° La fijación del complemento. El examen directo es útil para algunos bacterios, que, por su aspecto característico en el preparado o por su coloración específica, se distinguen de los inumerables saprófitos que a menudo se encuentran en las preparaciones hechas con material orgánico en condiciones no estériles.
