Description
Summary:Maize Dwarf Mosaic Virus (MDMV) isolates from corn, from the Argentine provinces of Salta, Córdoba, and Buenos Aires, and from the Republic of Chile (Santiago de Chile), with different symptomatologies, have been serologically tested in microprecipitation assays against a series of antisera of MDMV and Sugarcane Mosaic Virus (SCMV), and inoculated in nine differential sorghum hosts (Sorghum spp.). The results obtained have shown that the four isolates presented symptomatological differences in some sorghum cultivars inoculated. In serological tests, all the isolates reacted positively against the anti-MDMV-A (A strain of MDMV), except the Chilean isolate, which reacted with this and also with MDMV-E (E strain of MDMV). The A strain of MDMV is apparently the one that predominates in the corn crops in Argentina, varying its symptomatologic response according to the area where it occurs and the maize genotype used.
