A teaching experiment was designedto create an ideal context in which the pedagogical approach toerrors as springboards could be applied constantly. The teachingexperiment was organized as 10 lessons on mathematical definitionsfor two 11th -grade female students. Twenty mathematical errors wererecorded and analyzed. The error activities identified and describedare different from learning goals and outcomes. A taxonomy ofconstructive uses of errors was developed based on level ofmathematics discourse and stance of learning. Eight potentialbenefits associated with errors as springboards were generated fromthe analysis of error activities.
