Summary:The objective of this paper is to identify and review the scope and extent of agricultural research components in general and research on irrigation and drainage technologies in particular in Bank-supported irrigation projects. It is based on an extensive review of the Appraisal Reports of the 256 Irrigation and Drainage Projects that were approved during the period FY74-90. The report contains detailed country-by-country as well as regional statistics on the levels, trends and patterns of investments in research on irrigation and drainage technologies. It does not include any assessment of the effectiveness of these research components.
