Memory and Uprooting: : an Ontological Approach to the Andean House in Inka Times
Published 2023“…The central axis of this essay is to discuss the impact of Inka domination on the native populations of the northern Calchaquí Valley (Salta, Argentina), examining in a concrete way how this situation of contact impacted the intimate environment of the house, understanding it not as a physical and inert receptacle, but as part of the Andean microcosm and central element of the axis mundi from which the social and ritual life of Andean communities is organized (Allen 1988, Arnold 1992). For the specific case of this essay, I propose to analyze the affective relationship that exists between the house and the people-families that live in it and how the rituals that are practiced inside promote a circulation of regenerative energies that allow communication between entities. human and non-human, all of this allows us to glimpse how the house comes to have its own personality, generating an affective symbiosis with the people who live in it, being a fundamental part of the constitution of the Andean being. …”
