Inherited landscapes: Prehispanic agricultural degradation in the Tafí valley and its relationships with Northwestern Argentina by Sampietro Vattuone, Maria Marta, Peña Monné, José Luis

    Published 2021
“…Our approach used a geoarchaeological perspective and integrated the information from other arid valleys in the region. The main manifestation of this degradative process is recorded in the deposits of the H2 morphostratigraphic unit, which is extremely large and has been dated between ca. 4200 and 600 BP in valley bottoms. …”

Environmental changes and supply rocks strategies of during the period 12 000-4000 years AP in Jujuy puna, Argentina by Oxman, Brenda Irene; FFyL-UBA-CONICET, Hoguin, Rodolphe; CONICET-UBA-FFYL-Instituto de Arqueologia

    Published 2018
“…The results show that the Early Holocene was more stable and humid environment, with a smaller distance between patches of vegetation and those groups of hunter-gatherers developed a direct supply of certain raw materials and the rock-carving sequence was fully developed in the same residential base; while during the middle Holocene an environmental and technological variations are detected and the period were divided into two different moments, which is reflected in a higher specialization of the sites in relation to the different technological activities, accompanied by a growing aridity process. Likewise, an increase in the environmental variations in the second half of the middle Holocene is detected, which may have influenced the decision-making of human groups in relation to this risk factor.…”

La fecha de la cerámica más temprana en los Andes sur. Una perspectiva macrorregional mediante modelos bayesianos by Marsh, Erik Johnson; Universidad Nacional de Cuyo

    Published 2017
“…Models of 84 radiocarbon and thermoluminescence dates from 49 sites are compared among five areas in Argentina (the provinces of San Juan and Mendoza) and Chile (the semi-arid north, central, and south central). Although there are still few data, they show an intriguing pattern of very similar dates with medians between 2100–2180 cal BP (2250–1920, 68% probability, starting boundaries) in four of the areas, though some error ranges are large. …”
