Description
Summary:In this paper, we test the classification proposal developed by Clara Podestá and Elena Perrotta for the pucos of the Muñiz Barreto collection from the Late Period in the Calchaquíes Valleys of northwestern Argentina, stored at the Museo de La Plata. To this end, the pucos of the Bruch collection stored in the same museum are analyzed following the phase assignment criteria proposed by those authors. A point allocation system is created according to the variables present in each artifact for a given trait linked to the phases. Results indicate that 53% of the selected sample can be safely classified in one of the six phases, while the remaining 47% cannot. Considering contributions from other authors and variables observed in the analyzed pieces, we present a proposal to expand the criteria for assigning phases. The sample is then re-analyzed, increasing the percentage that could safely be classified in one of the six phases to 69% and limiting the unclassified materials to 31%.
