This situation led to the development of irregular adoption practices, mainly to foreign countries, in which the discourse of the absence of maternal love and abandonment was used in order to separate poor birth mothers from their children, violating their right to care for them. Through the analysis of documentary of public institutions and press sources, we examine and discuss the public discourses constructed within the framework of the public policies of the time, with the aim of regulating moralities and reinforcing the regime’s conservative gender and family mandates. |

En este artículo se analizan los usos políticos y morales del discurso del amor materno en la promoción y gestión de las adopciones “irregulares” de niñas y niños pobres durante la dictadura militar chilena. Dicha coyuntura propició el desarrollo de prácticas adoptivas irregulares, principalmente hacia el extranjero, en cuyas gestiones se utilizó el discurso de la ausencia del amor materno y del abandono con el fin de separar a las madres de origen pobres de sus hijas e hijos, vulnerando su derecho a cuidarlos. Mediante el análisis de fuentes documentales de instituciones públicas y de prensa, se examinan y discuten los discursos públicos construidos en el marco de las políticas públicas de la época, con el objetivo de regular las moralidades y reforzar los mandatos de género y familia conservadores del régimen. Este artigo analisa os usos políticos e morais do discurso do amor materno na promoção e no gerenciamento de adoções "irregulares" de crianças pobres durante a ditadura militar chilena. Essa situação levou ao desenvolvimento de práticas de adoção irregular, principalmente para países estrangeiros, nas quais o discurso da ausência de amor materno e do abandono foi usado para separar as mães pobres de seus filhos, violando seu direito de cuidar deles.
