description The average water balance was based on data of temperature and rainfall recorded in the Agricultural Experimental Station of Manfredi, during the 1934-1974 period. The Thornthwaite method was used to obtain the average monthly potential evapotranspiration. The following results were obtained: Two deficiency periods: April to September and December to February. Two periods without excess nor deficiency: March and October November - There were no periods with excess. Te averange water balance values differ considerably from the annual ones. The water balance serial of each year were obtained using the same data of temperature and rainfall as for the average water balance. The potential evapotranspiration was calculated for each month of the period, also using the Thornthwaite method. The frecuences of excess and deficiency were determined, as also the different soil moisture levels and their relationship with crops. With exception of October and March all the other months show deficiency frecuences superior to 50%, that means to say that the negative water balance predominates significantly over the positive balance.

El balance hidrológico normal se realizó con datos de temperatura y precipitación registrados en la E.E.A. Manfredi, al período 1934-1974. Se calculó la evapotranspiración potencial mensual normal por el método de Thornthwaite. Se llegó a los siguientes resultados: - Dos períodos con deficiencia : Abril a Septiembre y Diciembre a Febrero. - Dos períodos sin excesos ni deficiencia : Marzo y Octubre a Noviembre. - No existen períodos con excesos. Los valores del balance hidrológico normal se alejan bastante de los obtenidos en cada año. Los balances hidrológicos seriados se realizaron con los mismos datos de temperatura y precipitación que el balance hidrológico normal. Se calculó la evapo-transpiración potencial también por el método de Thornthwaite para cada mes del periodo. Se determinaron las frecuencias de excesos y deficiencias y la frecuencia de distintos niveles de humedad edáfica y su relación con la de los cultivos. Salvo en los meses de Octubre y Marzo, en los restantes se observan frecuencias de deficiencias superiores al 50%, es decir que el balance negativo predomina significativamente sobre el balance positivo.
