description Likert scales from its apparition and diffusion have been well received and are considered one of the best methods to build psychological testing. Furthermore, it is assumed than if have more response options, you will have more information about the individual, and better psychometric properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relevance of the use of different formats for answers in a Likert-type scale. Were conducted psychometric analyzes in various formats proposed in the scale (item analysis, reliability and factor structure). Were found similarities in terms of the psychometric characteristics of four formats proposed. We conclude that both politomous and dichotomous formats provide important information as to the reliability and validity of the instrument.
