We will see the distribution by continents and how the different nationalities have been changing over the years, increasing some at certain economic and social moments and replacing other nationalities for various reasons. |

En países como España, que afrontan un proceso grave de envejecimiento de la población como consecuencia de la baja natalidad y de la esperanza de vida cada vez más alta, la inmigración es un factor muy relevante para la permanencia del Estado de Bienestar. La población extranjera ha sido ampliamente estudiada en sus aspectos laboral, demográfico y vivienda, por lo que en este artículo se abordará el tema respecto de su análisis cuantitativo a lo largo del tiempo, más de 80 años, insistiendo básicamente en su número y nacionalidad, y con la característica común de ser, “población extranjera residente”. Igualmente se verán las causas de su incorporación, fundamentadas básicamente en razones económicas, cercanía lingüística, clima y calidad de vida. Se verá la distribución por continentes y como las distintas nacionalidades han ido cambiando a lo largo de los años, aumentando algunas en determinados momentos económicos y sociales y sustituyendo a otras nacionalidades por distintas causas.
