The purpose of this article is to evaluate the importance of African leaders in the foreign policy of their countries. From a comprehensive review of specialized literature, it can be inferred that traditional theoretical frameworks of Foreign Policy Analysis, which are mainly based on the diplomatic experience of great powers, are irrelevant in Africa. In the context of African countries, on the contrary, the final decision-making unit is not institutionalized, therefore, the leaders’ worldviews become practically the only reference for setting an international strategy and a national interest.
