description University extension is a function which is gaining more and more importance for teachers and which also involves the non-teaching university staff and the students. This stems from the need to link universities with the environment and, with greater emphasis, if those institutions are public. This paper briefly comments on the leading role of extension and presents a project of the Department of Economics of the National University of the South (UNS) of Bahía Blanca (Argentina) which has been run since June 2022 to the present. Free coaching sessions were given to fifteen small and medium-sized businesses and individual entrepreneurs, who received advice on costs, business plan and marketing strategies. The main objective was to involve ten teachers and eight advanced students in a task typical of their professional role to respond to the demands of the productive environment. The motivation was given by a survey carried out by that school between July and August 2021 among these types of companies in Bahía Blanca. The results of this survey highlighted the need for companies to have tools that allow them to improve the operation of their businesses. The feedback from the employers was very gratifying because they stated that they used the knowledge acquired, while the students were able to "learn by doing" and the teachers were able to teach beyond the classroom. Undoubtedly, the proposal will be repeated, rethinking certain adjustments.

La extensión universitaria es una función del docente de importancia creciente aunque también involucra al claustro no docente y al estudiantado. Esto se desprende de la necesidad de vincular a las universidades con el medio y, con mayor énfasis, si esa institución es pública. En este trabajo se comenta brevemente el rol protagónico de la extensión y se expone una experiencia del Departamento de Economía de la Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS) de Bahía Blanca (Argentina) que se está desarrollado desde junio del 2022 a la actualidad. Se llevaron a cabo sesiones de coaching gratuitas a quince pequeñas y medianas empresas y emprendedores individuales que recibieron asesoramiento acerca de costos, plan de negocios y estrategias de marketing. El objetivo principal fue involucrar a diez docentes y ocho alumnos avanzados en una tarea propia de su rol profesional para dar respuestas a las demandas del medio productivo. La motivación estuvo dada por el relevamiento realizado por esa casa de estudios  entre julio y agosto del 2021 entre ese tipo de empresas de Bahía Blanca, según el cual se ha detectado la necesidad de contar con herramientas que permitan mejorar el funcionamiento de sus negocios. Las devoluciones de los empresarios fue muy gratificante porque manifestaron utilizar los conocimientos adquiridos, en tanto que los alumnos pudieron “aprender haciendo” y los docentes pudieron enseñar más allá del aula. Sin dudas se va a repetir la propuesta repensando ciertos ajustes.
