| description | This article presents reflections on a human rights outreach project called: Inhabiting kilometer 16: perceptions and uses of water in the Manga Creek basin, developed by a team made up of university students from the University of the Republic, Uruguay, and secondary school students and teachers6 in a neighborhood in the northeast of Montevideo. Based on a process of dialogic interactions, access to drinking water, sanitation and living in a healthy environment in an area of the Montevideo periphery known as "Kilometer 16", located on National Route 8, was addressed. Through the dialogue of knowledge and an interdisciplinary approach to the subject, the aim was to learn about the uses of water by the population, their perceptions and relationships with surface water, as well as to co-construct strategies to improve water quality for daily, domestic and/or community uses through appropriate filtering technologies.

Este artículo presenta reflexiones en torno a un proyecto de extensión de derechos huma-nos, denominado: Habitar kilómetro 16: percepciones y usos del agua sobre la cuenca del Arroyo Manga, desarrollado por un equipo conformado por universitarios de la Universidad de la República, Uruguay, y por estudiantes y docentes de educación secundaria6, en un barrio del noreste de Montevideo. A partir de un proceso de interacciones dialógicas, se abordó el acceso al agua potable, el saneamiento y habitar en un ambiente sano en una zona de la periferia montevideana co-nocida como “Kilómetro 16”, ubicado en la Ruta Nacional 8. A través del diálogo de sabe-res y un abordaje interdisciplinario de la temática, se buscó conocer los usos del agua por parte de la población, sus percepciones y relaciones con las aguas superficiales, así como co-construir estrategias para mejorar la calidad del agua para usos cotidianos, domésticos y/o comunitarios a través de tecnologías apropiadas de filtrado.
