Normative data of the Social Anxiety and Phobia Scale (SPAI-B) for Argentinean adults

The norms were established according to age and sex using percentile values and T scores. The results showed that the cut-off points established as diagnostic criteria present good precision and a satisfactory discriminative power, showing the usefulness of the scale for research and clinical evaluation.

Key-words: social anxiety; SPAI-B; norms; Argentinean adults. La detección temprana y el diagnóstico clínico de la ansiedad social son esenciales para la prevención y tratamiento de esta patología. Por ello en Argentina se ha adaptado la versión breve de la Escala de Fobia y Ansiedad Social (SPAI-B) para su utilización en adultos. Si bien este instrumento permitió ampliar el campo de investigación en este país, hasta el momento no se cuentan con datos normativos que den utilidad como herramienta diagnóstica. El objetivo de este trabajo fue construir los baremos de interpretación del SPAI-B en adultos argentinos a partir de una muestra de 1513 personas de entre 18 y 80 años. Se establecieron baremos según edad y sexo utilizando valores percentilares y puntajes T. Los resultados evidenciaron que los puntos de corte establecidos como criterio diagnóstico presentan buena precisión y poder discriminativo satisfactorio, dando cuenta de la utilidad de la escala para la investigación y la evaluación clínica. A detecção precoce e o diagnóstico clínico da ansiedade social são essenciais para a prevenção e tratamento dessa patologia. Por esse motivo, na Argentina, a versão resumida da Escala de Ansiedade e Fobia Social (SPAI-B) foi adaptada para uso em adultos. Embora esse instrumento tenha permitido expandir o campo de pesquisa no país, até o momento não existem dados normativos que sejam úteis como ferramenta diagnóstica. O objetivo deste trabalho foi construir os baremos do SPAI-B em adultos argentinos a partir de uma amostra de 1.513 pessoas entre 18 e 80 anos. As escalas foram estabelecidas de acordo com a idade e o sexo por meio de valores percentuais e escores T. Os resultados mostraram que os pontos de corte estabelecidos como critérios diagnósticos apresentam boa precisão e poder discriminativo satisfatório, mostrando a utilidade da escala para pesquisa e avaliação clínica.
