Summary:Video games have great development and popularity among young people. However, one negative aspect of them may be trolling in Esports. Thus, the objective of the present work was to predict trolling behavior in video games based on game motives and dark personality. The sample was intentionally made up of 469 (87% male) players from the Esports League of Legends (60%) and CS-Go (40%), with a mean age = 21 years (SD = 2.81). Participants answered a trolling questionnaire, a game reason questionnaire, and a dark personality questionnaire (Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism). The results showed higher levels of Trolling behavior on CS-GO compared to League of Legends. With respect to trolling prediction, psychopathy was the most significant predictor for dark personality dimensions. The competition - challenge dimension was the most significant predictor for the game reasons. In the discussion, the implications of these findings are analyzed and suggestions for future studies are provided.
