description The aim of this study is to estimate the prevalence of Burnout syndrome in different academic areas, verifying the association between this syndrome and sociodemographic characteristics and undergraduate courses, as well as its dimensions. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 650 students from a university center in Santa Catarina. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey - (MBISS) were used. Upon analysis in SPSS version 20.0, the results indicated the prevalence of 10.9% of students with the symptoms of Burnout syndrome and the association with the variables gender, satisfaction with the course, professional experience in the course area, travel time until college, and study time and supervised internship. Between Burnout syndrome and undergraduate courses, associations occurred in the dimensions of emotional exhaustion and professional effectiveness.

El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar la prevalencia del síndrome de Burnout en diferentes áreas académicas y verificar la asociación con las características sociodemográficas, entre las diferentes carreras universitarias y las dimensiones del síndrome de Burnout. Se trata de un estudio transversal, con 650 estudiantes de un centro universitario del sur de Brasil. Fue utilizado un cuestionario sociodemográfico y el Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey - (MBISS). El análisis estadístico se realizó en el software SPSS versión 20.0; los resultados indicaron la prevalencia del 10.9% de los estudiantes con síntomas del síndrome de Burnout y asociación con las variables sexo, satisfacción con la carrera, experiencia profesional en su área académica, tiempo de desplazamiento hasta la universidad, tiempo de estudio y realización de práctica final obligatoria. Y, entre el síndrome de Burnout y las carreras universitarias, ocurrieron asociaciones en las dimensiones agotamiento y eficacia profesional. Objetiva-se, neste estudo, estimar a prevalência da síndrome de Burnout em diferentes áreas acadêmicas, verificando a associação entre essa síndrome e as características sociodemográficas e os cursos de graduação, bem como suas dimensões. Desenvolveu-se um estudo transversal, com 650 estudantes de um centro universitário catarinense. Utilizaram-se um questionário sociodemográfico e o Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey - (MBISS). Após a análise no SPSS versão 20.0, os resultados indicaram a prevalência de 10.9% dos acadêmicos com sintomas da síndrome de Burnout e a associação com as variáveis sexo, satisfação com o curso, experiência profissional na área do curso, tempo de deslocamento até a faculdade, e tempo de estudo, realização do estágio supervisionado. Entre a síndrome de Burnout e os cursos de graduação, ocorreram associações nas dimensões exaustão emocional e eficácia profissional.
