| description | This paper analyzes, from a socio-demographic perspective, the adolescent mortality in Argentina beyond external causes, in the 2005-2007 and 2015-2017 triennia. For this purpose, we calculate mortality rates by sex, age group, selected causes, and geographical regions based on data from the National Health Statistics and Information Office and the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses. We also calculate the Gini Coefficient and Years of Life Lost at the regional level, in order to deepen the analysis of the spatial dynamics of mortality.
The results show a reduction in adolescent mortality for all non-external causes. However, they reveal in addition: (a) a higher mortality in men; (b) mortality rises in adolescents aged 15-19 years, regardless of sex; (c) tumors are still the main cause of non-external death; (d) mortality from diseases of the central nervous system, circulatory and respiratory systems and maternal causes increases, mainly in adolescents aged 15-19 years; and (e) differences among regions persist, mostly in the detriment of the Northeast and Northwest regions.
These results reinforce the importance of taking actions focused on the particularities of each geographical context and the factors that most influence the occurrence of registered deaths. All these in order to provide a more comprehensive health care of adolescents, and thus achieve healthier and more sustainable societies in the future. |

Este trabajo analiza, desde una perspectiva sociodemográfica, el comportamiento de la mortalidad adolescente en Argentina, más allá de las causas externas, en los trienios 2005-2007 y 2015-2017. Para ello, se calculan y analizan tasas de mortalidad por sexo, grupo de edad, causas seleccionadas y regiones geográficas, con base en datos de la Dirección de Estadística e Información de Salud de la Nación y del Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos. También se calculan el Coeficiente de Gini y los Años de Esperanza de Vida Perdidos a nivel regional para profundizar el análisis de la dinámica espacial de la mortalidad. Los resultados muestran una reducción de la mortalidad adolescente para el conjunto de causas no externas. Sin embargo, se observan además: (a) mayores tasas de mortalidad masculina; (b) un aumento de la mortalidad en la población de 15 a 19 años de ambos sexos; (c) el predominio de los tumores como principal causa de muerte no externa; (d) un aumento de la mortalidad por enfermedades del sistema nervioso central, del aparato circulatorio, respiratorias y causas maternas, fundamentalmente entre los 15 y 19 años; y (e) la persistencia de diferencias interregionales, mayormente en detrimento del Noreste y del Noroeste. Estos resultados refuerzan la importancia de emprender medidas focalizadas en las particularidades de cada región y los factores que inciden en la ocurrencia de las muertes registradas. Todo ello en favor de procurar una atención más integral de la salud de la población adolescente, y lograr así sociedades más saludables y sostenibles a futuro.
