Description
Summary:We reconstructed the processes of growth and decrease of urban population in the territory that includes the metropolitan area of Córdoba. We processed disaggregated census data with GIS software, identifying clear counterurbanization, periurbanization and suburbanization processes in the metro area, and population shrinking in pericentral areas located in the main agglomerates. On the one hand, we verified the contraurbanization in the metro area; on the other hand, due to the detail level, we also discovered incipient recovery of population in some pericentral neighborhoods of Córdoba and population shrinking of central and pericentral areas also in medium-sized cities in the region. Finally, we reflected on the impact of these processes on the quality of life of the population, and we conjectured possible medium-term scenarios as a starting point for regional and metropolitan planning policies.
