La rusticación de plantas de Actinidia chinensis Pl. obtenidas a partir del cultivo in vitro de ápices caulinares fue posible cuando se utilizaron plantas de 5 cm de altura, 2 hojas expandidas y con 2 a 3 raíces principales como mínimo. Las mismas se cultivaron en terrinas con tierra, turba y perlita (1:1:1 v/v) bajo túnel de polietileno y en condiciones de invernáculo. Durante todo un año, mes a mes, se rusticaron más de 1000 plantas, observándose que solo se obtenían resultados positivos entre los meses de septiembre y diciembre. En los meses de noviembre y diciembre, la recuperación de plantas fue muy favorable, obteniéndose una supervivencia del 70,8% y 81,5%, respectivamente. Paralelamente, estacas leñosas provenientes de la poda invernal fueron tratadas con solución acuosa de IBA (1000 ppm durante 24 h) para facilitar su enraizamiento. Luego del período de brotación activa, las mismas se utilizaron para comparar su crecimiento con plantas micropropagadas de igual edad. Después de 11 meses de crecimiento en condiciones de vivero, se evaluaron, por peso fresco y peso seco de tallo y raíz, las diferencias existentes entre plantas propagadas por estacas y por cultivo in vitro.
