One experiment shows the DOP effect in a discriminative avoidance task. To demonstrate the effects of the pavlovian relationship between the stimulus and the aversive event in avoidance tasks, two groups of participants were compared, one with differential outcomes (DO) and another with common outcomes (CC). Results showed a greater learning for CD group, due to the role of pavlovian relations in avoidance learning. Results suggest that fear is not a unitary state and that the fears conditioned to different events are discriminable states with stimulus properties that can guide the choices of two avoidance responses.

Cuando se emplean consecuencias únicas, para dos o más respuestas de una discriminación condicional (Procedimiento de Consecuencias Diferenciales; PCD), en tareas apetitivas se observa un mayor aprendizaje. La evitación discriminada impide el establecimiento de relaciones respuesta-reforzador, ya que la respuesta previene la presentación del evento aversivo, por lo que ambos no ocurren juntos. Se presenta un experimento que muestra el efecto del PCD en una tarea de evitación discriminada. Para demostrar los efectos de la relación pavloviana entre el estímulo y el evento aversivo en tareas de evitación, dos grupos de participantes recibieron dos entrenamientos uno con consecuencias diferenciales (CD) y otro con consecuencias comunes (CC). Los resultados mostraron un mayor aprendizaje de evitación del grupo CD, debido al papel de las relaciones pavlovianas en el aprendizaje de evitación. Sugiriendo que diferentes miedos condicionados a estímulos específicos pueden tener propiedades discriminativas propias en la elección de dos respuestas de evitación.
