Sentimos con dolor la pérdida de Julio F. Villegas Bustos, destacado psicólogo chileno que el 11 de marzo del 2016 dejó de existir luego de una lucha de muchos años contra una penosa enfermedad. Anteriormente (Arias, 2016; Caycho, 2016, Salas, 2016) se ha comentado acerca de las virtudes de Villegas como amigo, académico y ciudadano dotado, como pocos, de entereza moral, amor por la libertad y democracia, así como entregado permanentemente a la formación integral de la juventud. Julio Villegas nació en 1944 en la ciudad de San Carlos, Ñuble, Chile y estudió la carrera de psicología en la Universidad de Chile en 1964. Acerca de sus inicios de estudios universitarios Julio Villegas menciona: “Por una opción de principios educacionales, estudié siempre en el sistema público y así complete el nivel básico, compartiendo el salón y las actividades con mis compañeros que representaban la mayor heterogeneidad social, religiosa y cultural” (Villegas, 2012, p. 277).
