When the child is born, unattached to the maternal organism, in order for it to survive, it is necessary that new modifications take place in its cardiovascular system, since organs that remained inactive, such as the lungs and the gastrointestinal tract, enter into functional activity.

El sistema circulatorio del niño después del nacimiento difiere considerablemente de los sistemas circulatorios del embrión y del feto.Hasta la fijación del huevo en la mucosa uterina, éste se nutre de los líquidos que lo rodean. Luego el embrión toma sus materiales nutritivos de la vesícula umbilical o vitelina, pero como la cantidad de productos que ésta contiene es muy escasa, se origina una nueva circulación que anexándolo al organismo materno lo pone en simbiosis con éste, que le suministra los líquidos y gases necesarios para su desarrollo, ésta es la circulación corial o placentaria. Al nacer el niño, desvinculado del organismo materno, para que subsista, es necesario que nuevas modificaciones se produzcan en su aparato cardiovascular, ya que órganos que permanecían inactivos como los pulmones y el aparato gastrointestinal, entran en actividad funcional.
