Even those in whom the concern of deep things already pointed, looked without anxiety at the signs that announced fateful days for the world. And many illusions have been fulfilled, perhaps not a few remained throughout the course, but it is true that a stage has already ended, and the old University that received us yesterday in solemn celebration, with equal solemnity, today says goodbye. |

Hace justamente seis años, un nutrido grupo de jóvenes, poco más que adolescentes, asistía con expectante regocijo, muchos por primera vez, a una ceremonia como ésta. Veníamos la mayor parte del Colegio histórico, y trasponíamos los umbrales de esta Casa, con el alegre entusiasmo de quienes se forjan la imagen de un porvenir magnífico, a fuerza de ver en el horizonte de la vida, sólo las luces de un amanecer rosado de nobles ilusiones. Aún aquellos en quienes apuntaba ya la inquietud de cosas hondas, miraban sin zozobra los signos que anunciaban para el mundo días aciagos. Y a muchas ilusiones se han cumplido, no pocas quedaron quizá a lo largo de lo andado, pero es lo cierto que una etapa ha terminado ya, y la vieja Universidad que ayer nos recibiera en solemne fiesta, con igual solemnidad, hoy nos despide.
