Description
Summary:Breast cancer (CM) and uterine cervical cancer (CC) are highly preventable and treatable diseases; if they are detected in time. In Argentina, the rates per 100,000 people are 20.8 for incidence and 8.3 for mortality for CC; while for CM they are 71.2 and 19.9. However, it has been seen that women who suffer from these diseases have a low level of education, lack of a social security, and live in less developed areas. Besides, national territory is marked by geographical and social contrasts, which make these rates to show great differences by province. This is why; the objective of the work was to evaluate the preventive practices in around sexual and reproductive health developed by women between 14 and 49 years old, as well as the relationships between the sociodemographic characteristics of women and such practices; using the information provided by the National Survey on Sexual and Reproductive Health (ENSSyR) 2013. It was observed that in the most vulnerable regions (Northeast, Northwest and Cuyo), the percentage of women who took the controls was lower than in those with better population indicators (Gran Buenos Aires and Patagonia). The level of education; and the level of income for screening mammograms; are risk factors; while the fact of having health coverage is a protective factor. Although there are CC and CM prevention programs in Argentina, they are not very efficient. Its implementation is subject to each province in particular; and therefore, it is not fulfilling the function of diminishing existing inequality in health issues.
